A lot of people have worked awfully hard to help give you the education of a lifetime. Now it's up to you to decide what to do with it.

Die Geschichte hinter diesem Zitat

Doerr closed his speech by echoing words his father had once told him: 'Mom and I are going to give you one gift which no one can ever take away—a good education. But it's up to you to decide what to do with it.' He extended this wisdom to the entire graduating class, reminding them of the collective investment that parents, teachers, and mentors had made in their futures. But Doerr's framing made clear that 'what to do with it' was not primarily about career success. His four love stories had built toward a single message: that the most meaningful use of your education is in service of the people you love. He urged graduates not to wait thirty-four years, as he had, to ask the important questions about love, purpose, and what makes a life meaningful.
