There is not a page of American history, of which we are proud, that was authored by a chronic complainer or prophet of despair. We are doers.

We have a responsibility not to be prisoners of history, but to shape history; a responsibility to fill the role of pathfinder.

Pride is precisely what will lead the world to hell. I am suggesting an alternative: humbly accepting our responsibility for the world.

The world is in the hands of us all. And yet some have a greater influence on its fate than others. The more influence a person has, the greater the demands placed on their sense of responsibility.

When you get knocked down — which is plenty often — you get right up in a hurry. Then you get your strength in the huddle. You get it by going back and running that play together with your teammates. That 'together' is the thing that gives you the buildup to get ready to go again.

Don't send people to do it. Meet them there and help them do it, and you will be amazed how it works.

Integrate what you believe into every single area of your life. Take your heart to work, and ask the most and best of everybody else too.

To be in a locker room before a big game and to look into strong faces, which say, 'If we can only do it today' — to be with aggressive, ambitious people who have lost themselves in something bigger than they are — this is what living is all about.

Hand and head and heart were made to work together. They must work together. They should be educated together.

If the women of the world really make their influence felt, war will surely be outlawed and stay outlawed.
