The only way you'll reach any height in life and in love is by taking the chance that you might fall. You have to give your all.

La historia detrás de esta cita

Legend closed his speech by circling back to the personal story that had given him the authority to speak about love so passionately. After his family fell apart, he had built walls to protect himself — succeeding academically, landing a consulting job at BCG after Penn, all while keeping emotional distance from everyone around him. But music kept pulling him back toward vulnerability. He spent years being rejected by every major record label while working days at BCG and nights performing at small gigs. When he finally connected with a young Chicago producer named Kanye West — introduced through his Penn roommate DeVon Harris — their collaboration succeeded precisely because they 'put all of ourselves into it,' focusing on 'making something beautiful' rather than what would sell. The lesson was personal: his biggest song, 'All of Me,' was a love song written for his wife, and his greatest professional success came when he stopped protecting himself and committed fully. 'Half-doing it is not doing it right,' he told the graduates. 'You have to go all in.'
