The biggest mistake you can make is to be complacent and think that you have lots of extra time on your hands. You might, but you also might not.
Ruth Westheimer
Trinity College Commencement 2004, 2004
La historia detrás de esta cita
This was Dr. Ruth's most sobering moment in her Trinity College address. She told the graduates about her idyllic early childhood in Frankfurt — a loving family, a comfortable home, days she took completely for granted. Then, overnight, the Nazis destroyed everything. She was put on a train at age ten, and her wonderful childhood was gone forever. The lesson she drew was not about politics or history but about the preciousness of time itself. She urged the graduates never to say 'I'm bored' or 'there's nothing to do,' pointing out that there are 130,000 books published every year, concerts to attend, friends to see, a whole world of wonders to visit. Every second is a gift that can be snatched away without warning.
