Resilience

Hard things will happen to us. We will recover. We will learn from it. We will grow more resilient because of it. And as long as we are fortunate enough to be breathing, we will breathe in, breathe through, breathe deep, breathe out.

My experience has been that my mistakes led to the best things in my life. And being embarrassed when you mess up is part of the human experience. Getting back up, dusting yourself off, and seeing who still wants to hang out with you afterward and laugh about it — that's a gift.

Getting canceled on the internet and nearly losing my career gave me an excellent knowledge of all the types of wine.

Losing things doesn't just mean losing. A lot of the time, when we lose things, we gain things too.

Through surf and storm, howling gale, high shall your purpose be.

Amazing things happen when you do hard things. You grow, you become closer to others who share the experience, you become stronger as a person.

There may be more failures than victories. I've been blessed to have 24 Grammys, but I've lost 46 times. That meant rejection 46 times. Please don't ever feel entitled to win — just keep working harder.

Be open, be impatient, be hopeful.

The challenges we face go well beyond a virus, and the old normal wasn't good enough.

You don't always need hope when everything's going fine. It's when things seem darkest. That's when you need it the most.

Your mentors may leave you prepared, but they can't leave you ready.
