As a first-year law student at UVA, Ryan finally mustered the courage to approach Katie Homer, a classmate he had a crush on, at a school dance. But he lost his nerve at the last moment and instead introduced himself to her dance partner, asking 'Are you Norman Huckelby? I think we're in civil procedure class together.' Norman cheerfully confirmed. But, Ryan noted, 'that was still the wrong answer. The right answer was: I'm Katie Homer, it's so nice to meet you, and yes, I would like to marry you.'
