There is another path to take. It's hard work. You'll be right sometimes, you'll be wrong sometimes. People will doubt you, you'll doubt yourself. But if you are doing something you want and have a passion for, at least you'll have that to guide you.

L'histoire derrière cette citation
Mike Judge, the creator of Beavis and Butt-Head, King of the Hill, Office Space, and Silicon Valley, delivered a commencement speech at UC San Diego that reflected his characteristic blend of humor and plain-spoken wisdom. This passage came near the end of his address, where he offered the most direct advice of the speech. Judge's career embodied the 'other path' he described. Before becoming one of the most successful comedy creators in television and film, he had worked as an engineer, a musician, and a self-taught animator. His journey was full of the doubt and difficulty he warned about — Beavis and Butt-Head was initially rejected by networks, and Office Space was a box office disappointment before becoming a cult classic. The honesty of the passage — acknowledging that passion doesn't eliminate doubt, difficulty, or failure — made it more credible than typical commencement optimism. Judge wasn't promising that following your passion leads to success. He was saying something more modest and more true: that passion gives you a compass through the inevitable confusion.
