Responsibility

For us to enjoy peace, we need to manage our resources more responsibly, more sustainably, more accountably, more transparently, and we need to share these resources more equitably.

My commandment is, 'Thou shall not stand idly by.' When you witness an injustice, don't stand idly by. You must intervene. You must interfere.

Do not think you can look away from the injustice, the suffering, or the lack of true freedom that is the lot of so many people in our world today. Your future depends on their future.

In a free and compassionate society, the public good depends on private character. That character is formed and shaped in institutions like family, faith, and the many civil and social organizations.

The world owes you nothing. You will only get from life what you invest in it.

Your personal integrity is always in your own hands and can never be taken from you. Only you can give it away.

We are too experienced and too well educated to lead our lives as puppets. We cannot afford to listen silently then nod our heads and move on.

The best commencement speech I can give you is: We broke it. But here's the good news — you fix it, and it's going to be a heck of a lot of fun.

Pick a company or organization that is dedicated to helping humanity. Then your life will be dedicated to a worthy cause.

It's not a cause, that's an emergency. And when the disease gets out of control because most of the population lives on less than one dollar a day — that's not a cause, that's an emergency.

Giving is not something that should be saved for the sweet by and by. It should be a lifelong practice.

To whom much is given, much is expected.
