Joss Whedon से और

You do not pass through this life. It passes through you. You experience it, you interpret it, you act, and then it is different. That happens constantly. You are changing the world. You always have been.

इस उद्धरण के पीछे की कहानी

Whedon built toward this moment by first referencing his own commencement speaker, Bill Cosby, who had told graduates: 'You're not going to change the world, so don't try.' Whedon said he'd spent years thinking he could do better than that advice, and this was his answer. Rather than framing 'changing the world' as an aspiration or a call to action, Whedon reframed it as an inescapable fact. The question isn't whether you'll change the world — you don't have a choice, because that's 'actually what the world is.' Every experience, every interpretation, every action makes the world different. The graduates weren't about to enter the world; they were about to become it. This inverted the typical commencement rhetoric of inspiration and ambition. Whedon wasn't challenging graduates to try harder or dream bigger. He was telling them that agency is the default condition of existence — that the world is changed not through grand gestures but through the constant, unavoidable act of living.
