Michelle Obama से और

We're the lucky ones, and we can never forget that we didn't get where we are today all on our own. We got here because of so many people who toiled and sweat and bled and died for us. We owe them.

इस उद्धरण के पीछे की कहानी

In one of the most emotionally charged moments of her speech, Mrs. Obama challenged graduates who might feel that their personal success exempted them from responsibility to others. She pointed to sobering statistics — African Americans being twice as likely to be unemployed and three times as likely to live in poverty — and warned against the temptation to 'go on your way and never look back.' She then invoked the sacrifices of parents, grandparents, and all those who came before — people who never dreamed of getting a college education themselves but who worked, saved, and sacrificed so that others could. The only way to pay back that debt, she argued, was by making the same kinds of sacrifices and investments for the next generation. It was a deeply personal message that echoed her own story of parents who never attended college but were determined to see their children succeed.
