Wambach reframes the fairy tale that girls are told their whole lives. Little Red Riding Hood is given strict instructions: stay on the path, don't talk to anybody, keep your head down. The message is clear — don't be curious, don't make trouble, or bad things will happen. Wambach admits she stayed on that path out of fear — not of being eaten by a wolf, but of being cut, being benched, losing her paycheck. She was so grateful for any seat at the table that she missed opportunities to demand equality. If she could go back and tell her younger self one thing, it would be this. She then tells the story of wolves being reintroduced to Yellowstone in 1995 — feared as a threat to the ecosystem, they turned out to be its salvation, regenerating rivers and forests. Women, she argues, will play the same role.
