Faith

You don't always need hope when everything's going fine. It's when things seem darkest. That's when you need it the most.

Everything is always working out for me.

This is a battle-hardened hope, tempered by loss and clear-eyed about the stakes.

May the source of strength, who blessed the ones before us, help us find the courage to make our lives a blessing.

Every day, wake up and say to yourself, this little light of mine, I'm going to let it shine.

I don't believe in hope. Hope is a beggar. Hope walks through the fire. Faith leaps over it.

Fear or faith, which will be our master? Fear is whispered in our ears and shouted in our faces. Faith must be fostered by the man or woman you see every day in the mirror.

Your career as human beings and as Americans and as graduates of Yale is to stand on the fulcrum between fear and faith—fear at your back, faith in front of you. Which way will you lean? Which way will you move? Move forward. Ever forward.

To create in those waters, we must have more than an optimist's escapism. Today, to create is to hope. To create is to live.

The World that Ought to Be is that which is already embedded in our senses. God's hand touches us, even through the cold earth of death and despair.

Without God, life's storms are too strong to withstand. But with Him, there is no storm that can destroy you.

Every other disappointment that happened... they were like guideposts that kept me on my path.
