Mais de Marissa Mayer

Do something you're not ready to do. In pushing through that discomfort you'll learn a lot more about yourself. You'll learn to do something you didn't think you could do, or you'll learn where your limits are. Either is valuable.

A história por trás desta citação

Mayer listed the four major decisions in her life that put her 'entirely over my head': moving 2,000 miles from Wisconsin to college at 18, changing her major to symbolic systems (which she could barely explain to her parents), spending a summer doing research in Zurich without speaking German, and joining an eight-person startup called Google in 1999. The Google story was the centerpiece. Sergey Brin handed her a business card 'printed with a dot matrix printer on the card stock equivalent of typing paper, where if you looked closely at the edges, you could see the perforations where he had torn the cards apart himself.' She gave the company a 2% chance of succeeding — 'which was about 100 times what I would give the other startups I was talking to.' The turning point: 'I realized that I would learn more at Google trying to build a company, regardless of whether we failed or succeeded, than I would at any of the other companies I had offers from.'
