A história por trás desta citação

Stephen Colbert, the host of 'The Colbert Report' (and later 'The Late Show'), delivered the valedictory address at the University of Virginia in May 2013. After a lengthy and hilarious opening that roasted UVA's traditions, secret societies, famous alumni, and founder Thomas Jefferson, Colbert pivoted to the advice portion of his speech. He began by addressing Time magazine's recent cover story labeling millennials as 'lazy, entitled narcissists,' then immediately turned it around on his own generation of baby boomers: 'Self-absorption is kind of our thing. We're the original Me Generation.' But beneath the humor was a genuinely moving point. Because the previous generation had left fewer easy paths, Colbert argued, this generation would learn sooner the essential truth that you must forge your own way. The reference to secret societies was a brilliant callback — at a school famous for its secret societies, the 'true secret' was that no one was coming to rescue you.
