I had fame and fortune but I was very unhappy. The harder I worked, the more famous I got, the bigger the hole in my heart became.
Chuck Norris
Liberty University Commencement 2008, 2008
The Story Behind This Quote
After building a successful film career with numerous action movies, Norris made a startling confession to the Liberty University graduates. Despite achieving the fame and fortune that many aspire to, he found himself deeply unhappy. He kept thinking that working harder would make him happier, but the opposite proved true. Norris traced the emptiness to having drifted from his Christian faith after being drawn into the entertainment world of Hollywood. It wasn't until his second wife, Gina, a strong Christian woman, began reading the Bible aloud to him each morning that the Holy Spirit called him back. Renewing his faith finally filled the hole that fame and fortune never could.
