Do not take no for an answer. Not when you're applying for jobs. Not when you actually get a job. The food court at the mall is littered with people who didn't fight for it. Fight for it.

The Story Behind This Quote
Sharyn Alfonsi, the Emmy award-winning CBS News correspondent and reporter for '60 Minutes Sports,' returned to her alma mater, the University of Mississippi, to deliver the journalism school's commencement address in May 2013. She opened with a hilarious story about a rejection letter she received early in her career, in which a news director told her that her 'hair was too big, her accent too thick,' and that she looked 'equine' — essentially calling her a horse. Rather than being crushed, Alfonsi was encouraged by one line: 'I look forward to seeing more of your work.' That stubborn optimism became the foundation of her first piece of advice. She told the graduates that in journalism, the people who succeed aren't necessarily the most talented — they're the ones who refuse to quit. Tenacity, not talent, is the differentiator.
