Right at this moment in your life, you have nothing to lose. Everything you have acquired of value is locked inside you. If you have a dream, now is the time to pursue it, before you buy furniture.
Jerry Zucker
University of Wisconsin-Madison Commencement 2003, 2003
这句语录背后的故事
Zucker's second rule came from an informal survey he conducted. He asked people what they regretted most about life after graduation, and amazingly, they all had the same answer: they bought furniture. What he meant was that they accumulated obligations, commitments, and possessions that made it progressively harder to take risks. Zucker himself graduated from Wisconsin with 'no employable skills, unless you count jury duty,' which meant he could afford to fail. And there were many failures. But he found what he was good at, found something he loved — and now he had furniture. Lots of furniture.
