Jimmy Iovine, the legendary music producer and co-founder of Beats by Dre, told the story that shaped his entire career. While engineering Bruce Springsteen's album Darkness on the Edge of Town, he spent six weeks trying to get the drum sound right. When Springsteen suggested bringing in someone else to help, the young Iovine was humiliated and wanted to quit. He told Springsteen's manager Jon Landau, 'I'm done.' Landau looked him in the eye and delivered five words that changed Iovine's life: 'This is not about you.'
