这句语录背后的故事

John Doerr, one of Silicon Valley's most influential venture capitalists and an early backer of Google and Amazon, returned to his alma mater Rice University to deliver the 2007 commencement address. Rather than talking about business strategy or technology, Doerr structured his entire speech around four love stories—love for parents, romantic love, love for children, and the graduates' own unwritten love stories. This central insight came during his third story, about parenthood. After years of prioritizing work over family—traveling constantly and missing meals at home—Doerr was jolted awake when his wife Ann was diagnosed with cancer. Everything changed. He declared 6:00 to 10:00 PM an 'email-free family time zone' and began testing every business trip against a simple question: 'Is this really worth missing tonight at home?' The realization that meaning comes not from professional achievement but from our relationships with others became the moral center of his address.
