In my life, there is only one concept that I have determined. It's that everything is gray. Every person, every question, every tragedy, even every victory — they all have nuance. Pay attention to the nuance.

这句语录背后的故事

Speaking to an audience of drama students, Bell drew a powerful parallel between acting and real life. In acting, she explained, two-dimensional characters are 'at the least boring and at the most extreme, irresponsible.' Actors are taught to embrace complicated characters — you can't accurately play a villain until you find one thing about him that you love. But in daily life, she observed, 'nuance seems to get lost in the shuffle.' We stop looking for the one thing we love about each person. Complicated people get cast out. We stop listening to each other. She urged graduates to apply their training as 'people architects' to real life: choose complexity over simplicity, listen with open ears, and 'Sandy Meisner your life.' The reference to Fifty Shades of Grey as her segue into this serious point was peak Kristen Bell.
