L'histoire derrière cette citation

Bush tells a story from Robert Fulghum about a young pastor who organized children into a game of "Giants, Wizards, and Dwarfs." When a small girl asked, "But where do the mermaids stand?" and was told there were no mermaids, she insisted, "Oh yes there are — I'm a mermaid." The girl knew who she was and wouldn't give up her identity to fit into someone else's categories. Bush uses this to challenge graduates to celebrate differences and make room for those who don't fit the boxes — arguing that answering the question of where the mermaids stand is the foundation for building something truly inclusive.
