Hyneman saved his most important point for last. After encouraging playful curiosity and systematic diligence, he asked the graduates to consider one question above all others in everything they do: Are you being kind? In your professional life, your family life, your dealings with others — are you kind? He argued that kindness was an obligation owed to children, future generations, and each other. No question, he said, could disprove the importance of kindness, and it was the thing that would make all their successes truly rewarding.
