She cycled through careers — headhunting consultant, substitute teacher, staffer on a losing presidential campaign — all in her first year out. What got her through, she said, was focus and faith. She never would have predicted ending up in the President's Cabinet, but she stood and delivered at every turn, even feeling out of her element surrounded by Ivy Leaguers at the White House.
